What are the different termite treatment approaches?

Termite Foam

A effective method of treating live termites in a structure is to apply termite foam as a topical treatment by injecting it in a foam matrix directly into the affected timbers. All our Technicians have a special foaming applicator that allows the right amount to be applied to the appropriate areas.

The direct application to live termites ensure rapid mortality. But there is another advantage of using a termite foam application. Once the termite foam drys it stays as a non-detectable poison. If any new termites were to come back into the treated area, they too would pick up the active ingredient and it would continue to be passed through the colony.

Which type of initial termite treatment should be done?

One of our experienced technicians can assess the degree of infestation in your home. Depending on the type of termite and type of structure you have, he will advise on the most appropriate termite treatment.

Termite Dust

Termite dust is a new dusting formulation. It is basically the Termite foam compound in a dust form. Once we have established the extent of the infestation we will drill small holes into the termite workings and gently apply it by hand puffing the Termite dust. Once it has been applied into their workings, the termites carry the dust particles on their bodies and eventually back to the nest (where ever that may be). Being a very social and efficient insect it doesn’t take long for the active ingredient “fipronil” to be transferred throughout the colony.

The wonderful thing about Termite dust is that it’s very safe to apply into domestic environments and has been proven to take as little as 2 to 4 weeks to eradicate a termite colony. We are finding that Termite dust is very successful on the two prevalent types of termites in Newcastle.

Types of initial termite treatments

  • Foam treatment.
  • Dusting treatment.
  • Baiting program using above-ground bait stations.

Active Termite Treatments

Termite treatments to specific areas with active termites in structures.

Termite Treatments

If you, or one of our technicians, have found live termites in your house, in a tree stump, or in a retaining wall, and there are still good numbers of the termites, then we have a chance to apply the initial treatment.

The purpose of this treatment or baiting program is to stop them chewing your house and if possible to eradicate the termite colony. We strongly recommend to do this before installing a chemical treatment around the house.

Above Ground Bait Stations

In some situations we might recommend to install an Above Ground bait station directly onto an area with live termites. This allows the termites to feed on the highly desirable bait that is laced with a IG agent (growth inhibitor). The termites have no idea that the bait has poison and take it straight back to the nest to feed the colony.

We normally recommend this course of action when are concerned the structure can’t adequately be treated with a chemical treatment zone on the outside and we really want to be sure that the colony that is infesting the house is eliminated. The baiting program can take months to be completed but we can measure the amount of bait taken and gain some tangible outcomes.
